Musicology Sessions is thrilled to announce the return of the legendary hip-hop group Arrested Development on October 30th at BitefArtCafe.
Pioneers of hip-hop since 1991, Arrested Development have long been cultural champions of consciousness and empowerment around the globe. Their blend of eclectic and vibrant sounds and clothing created a unique collision of rhythm and style that continues to stand apart from the expected look and sound of hip-hop culture. Their mix of African rhythms, powerful messages, and timeless hits defined an entire era and shaped the hip-hop we know today.
With numerous albums and world tours, they brought a turning point to hip-hop culture. Their album 3 Years, 5 Months and 2 Days in the Life of… earned them two Grammy Awards — for Best New Artist and Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group (“Tennessee”) — along with two MTV Awards, a Soul Train Music Award, and an NAACP Image Award. Rolling Stone named them Band of the Year in 1992, while VH-1 listed them among the greatest hip-hop artists of all time. Even the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame included “Tennessee” among the 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll.
They have performed alongside historic figures such as Nelson Mandela, Louis Farrakhan, Hillary Rodham Clinton, and Barack Obama — making them the very definition of a legend.
The band continues to create powerful music focused on self-reflection and revolution. Their 2024 double album Bullets in the Chamber was no exception, featuring iconic collaborators such as Chuck D, Skyzoo, Canibus, Diana King, Ras Kass, O’hene Savant, Twan Mack, MRK SX, Do it All Dupree, Grandmaster Caz, Sol Messiah, and Sa-Roc, with special appearances by Montsho Eshe and Ras Don.
Their latest project, Adult Contemporary Hip-Hop, executive-produced by Speech for Vagabond Productions and Configa for Configaration Records, was released on July 4th. Singles “All I See Is Melanin” and “Pack It Out” deliver unmatched lyricism, soulful storytelling, and an enlightened message — in a way that only Arrested Development can.
