Revolutionaries of the world hip-hop scene and multiple Grammy Award winner, Arrested Development, will perform in Belgrade audience on September 1, 2022, thus completing the summer concert series Musicology Sessions.
Positively oriented hip-hop band, eclectic and colorful sound, rhythms and styles, oppose the expectations of hip-hop culture. Encouraging lyricism that speaks of self-reflection and encourages change is the main feature of their songs. African rhythms, blues, funk, soul, rap and hip-hop are just some of the styles that the band was inspired to create in their music. In the early 1990s, the band’s producer and frontman, Spich, along with Headliner, a well-known DJ, founded the band as an affirmative, afrocentric alternative to American “gangsta” rap. Their presentation of vivid African sound and fashion was a unique synthesis of rhythms, genres and moods opposed to the established, hard image of American hip-hop. Arrested Development represents the revolutionaries of hip-hop culture who have influenced the views and approaches of many famous bands, such as “Black Eyed Peas”, “Fugees”, and “Outkast”.
The album, “3 years, 5 Months and 2 Days in the Life of…”, released in 1992, brought them two Grammy Awards for Best New Artist and Best Rap Single “Tennessee”. They also won awards from well-known media houses MTV and Rollin Stone Magazine, as well as the Soul Train and NCAAP image awards.
The latest edition, “For the Fkn Love”, was published in 2021, for the prestigious publishing house Vagabond Productions and Configa. On the latest album, they talk about contemporary topics, especially pointing out the need for understanding, respect and love.
